Board of Directors Leadership Opportunities

Good Governance

Become an SFDS Leader

Governance in professional associations is a system for decision-making, oversight, and accountability to the membership and the mission of the Society with leadership comprised of members who are selected to lead and shape the future of the organization. Serving on the SFDS board of directors, as a delegate, and/or on an SFDS committee is one of the many ways you can give back to your association and profession. SFDS’s success depends on a diverse group of leaders from different cohorts, practice models, and practice specialties who:

  • Are open to the ideas and opinions of others
  • Are committed to meeting attendance (remote and in person)
  • Work well with other volunteers and staff
  • Participate in thoughtful discussions
  • Will work in good faith with Society management and other board members as partners towards achievement of SFDS goals
  • Always act in the best interests of the Society and represent the interests of all people served by the Society
  • Serve as Society ambassadors, recruiting new members and leaders
