The San Francisco Dental Society (SFDS) is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share, or rent website collected information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement. The SFDS respects the privacy of its members and other visitors to its website. The SFDS strongly believes that if electronic commerce and online activities are to flourish, consumers must be assured that information provided online is used responsibly and appropriately. To protect online privacy, the SFDS has implemented the following policy.
What Information Does the SFDS Collect?
Most data the SFDS collects is used only to help us better serve our members. It is our general policy to collect and store only personal information that our members and visitors knowingly provide. SFDS does not sell, rent, or lease its website collected information to third parties, but SFDS does share its membership information with the California Dental Association and the American Dental Association. The California Dental Association and the American Dental Association maintain membership databases with member information. From General Users
The SFDS does not collect any personal information from users browsing its Web site. Only aggregate data -- such as the number of hits per page -- are collected. Aggregate data are only used for internal purposes and do not provide any personally identifying information.
From the SFDS's Members, Meeting Registrants, and Other Customers
To gain access to members-only resources and personalization features on sfds.org, members are required to logon. The SFDS may ask users to provide their name, member number (for members), organization name, business phone, and e-mail through membership applications, meeting or seminar registrations, publication orders, subscriptions, and event registrations. Additionally, for some e-mails sent in HTML format by the SFDS to its members through its electronic newsletters, we will collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that email. For those emails, the SFDS will monitor whether a recipient subsequently clicks through to links provided in the message. Other information collected through this tracking feature includes email address of a user, the date and time of the user's "click," a message number, tracking URL number and destination page. The SFDS only uses this information to enhance its products/services and distribution of those products/services to its members. This information is not sold or distributed in any other manner.
How Does the SFDS Use Data Collected?
The SFDS uses information voluntarily submitted by members and other customers in the following ways:

Generally, the SFDS and its related subsidiaries uses data collected to improve its own web content; to respond to visitors' interests, needs and preferences; and to develop new products and services.
- Disclosures to Third Parties
Unless you opt out in writing, SFDS may also use your information to provide a SFDS “Find a Dentist” directory and/or other membership directories. While SFDS takes reasonable steps to protect privacy, the internet is inherently not a secure medium. SFDS does, however, endeavor to put in place various security procedures so as to protect any personal information held or stored by SFDS. If any of the information that you have provided to SFDS changes, for example if you change your e-mail address, name or other details or if you wish to us to remove your details, please let us know by sending an email to info@sfds.org or by sending a letter to San Francisco Dental Society, 2143 Lombard Street, San Francisco, CA, 94123. We strongly advise you: do not communicate private, confidential, or privileged information using this website. Please be aware that e-mail communication can be intercepted in transmission or misdirected. Email and contact forms are not considered to be completely secure. Please do not include personal identifying information such as your birth date, or personal medical information in any emails you send to us.
SFDS may disclose any information held by SFDS about you, without notice, if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) comply with applicable law; (b) enforce SFDS’s rights; or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of others.
California law provides California customers the right to request from SFDS certain details about how certain types of their information are shared with third parties. If you would like to request this information, please email your request to info@sfds.org or send a letter to 2143 Lombard St., San Francisco, CA 94123. Requests must include “California Privacy Rights Request” in the first line of the description and include your name, street address, city, state, and ZIP code. Please note that SFDS is not required to respond to requests made by means other than through the provided email address or mail address.
- Credit Card Account Information
When users choose to make payments via credit cards, they do so on the website of a third-party service provider. We do not store or reuse credit card information.
Monitoring and Use of Cookies?
The SFDS uses cookies only to facilitate automated activity, store, and track passwords, determine appropriate solicitations, and review navigation patterns. Cookies are deployed on this Website thereby improving the quality of service. No guarantee can be made by SFDS as to the correct functioning of this Website should cookies be disabled in the browser being used. Cookies enable SFDS to identify your device, or you when you have logged in. We use cookies that enable you to move around the site or to provide certain basic features and to enhance the functionality of the Website (by storing your preferences, for example). The Site is made available for use primarily by dentists, those practicing in the allied dental health professions and those professionals with related interests. We do not knowingly collect or accept Personal Information from individuals who have not registered with the SFDS. Note, however, there is no industry consensus as to what site and app operators should do with regard to these signals. During monitoring, material may be examined, recorded, copied, and used for SFDS purposes. Use of the Website, authorized or unauthorized, constitutes consent to such monitoring.
We are based in the U.S. and the information we and our service providers collect is governed by U.S. law. If you are accessing the Sites from outside of the U.S., please be aware that information collected through the Sites may be transferred to, processed, stored and used in the U.S. Data protection laws in the U.S. may be different from those of your country of residence. Use by Children Under 13
SFDS does not intend for its website to be used by children under the age of 13, nor do we seek to collect information about children under the age of 13. SFDS does not intend to collect personal information as defined by the U.S. Children’s Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) in a manner that is not permitted by COPPA. If you are under the age of 13, or the parent of a child under the age of 13, we request that you do not provide us with any personal information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe SFDS has collected such information in a manner not permitted by COPPA, please email us at info@sfds.org or send a letter to 2143 Lombard St, San Francisco, CA 94123 and we will remove such data to the extent required by COPPA.
What Privacy Issues Arise with Links to Other Sites?
This Web site contains links to other web sites. The SFDS has no control over and is not responsible for the privacy policies or content of such sites. Further, SFDS is not responsible for effectiveness of, or compliance with, any third-parties’ opt out options or programs or the accuracy of their statements regarding their programs.
