Schedule II Opioid Drugs Mandatory Course for License Renewal
You must RENEW if you took the course in 2023. This will be the ONLY Opioid course SFDS will offer in 2025.
*This course satisfies the 2 CE unit requirement made effective by the Dental Board of California for license renewal effective January 1, 2023.
Course Objectives:
• Explore pain management drug options for acute pain control
• How to register for, and utilize, CURES (Controlled Substance Utilization, Review and Evaluation System)
• Red flag indicators of prescriptions issued for reasons other than a legitimate medical purpose
• How to manage acute and chronic pain in the dental setting
• The risks and identification of opioid use disorder and practices and legal requirements for opioid prescribing and dispensing.
Fees: SFDS/CDA Members: $49 Non-SFDS/CDA Members $79
*A $10 fee will be applied to registrations made after January 21, 2025.
Once you register with SFDS and submit payment, you will receive a separate confirmation email to register on Zoom. Please register in advance with your name, email address, and San Francisco Dental Society or SFDS in order to access the Zoom Webinar on January 28, 2025. Upon registration with Zoom, the webinar link will be sent directly to you.
Dr. Close, is an Attending Emergency Physician at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, and the lead clinical physician for the Monterey County Prescribe Safe Initiative. She has been practicing emergency medicine at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula since 2003.
Cancellation Policy:
- Cancellations of registration must be made by January 21, 2025 in order to receive a refund, less a $10.00 processing/handling fee
- Cancellations after January 21, 2025,or No Shows, will NOT receive a refund.
**Effective January 1, 2023 California dentists must complete a mandated C.E. that covers the responsibilities and requirements of prescribing Schedule II opioid drugs. Dentists will be required to successfully complete 2 units of C.E. on opioid prescribing as a condition to renewing a license with the Dental Board of California each license renewal cycle.
