Study Club: Hands On - Emergency Medicine for Every Dental Office

SFDS Study Club in 2025! The Study Club is an exciting opportunity for both the new and more seasoned practitioner to learn from colleagues and peers in a small, discussion and case-based format.

The Study Club meets six (6) times in 2025. Each meeting provides 2 hours of continuing education credits.

Topic: Emergency Medicine for Every Dental Office: A Hands-On Workshop with Dr. Jesse Manton

Dr Manton will provide a review of emergency medicine principles, evidence based treatment guidelines, high-performance team dynamics, and hands-on practice with use of the foundational emergency medical monitors, equipment, and supplies for the dental office setting.

This hands-on session will cover: 
 - A comprehensive medical emergency response system for the dental office setting.
 - Indications, contraindications, dosages, and methods of delivery of essential drugs.
 - Delivery of supplemental oxygen using an e-cylinder - regulator system.
 - The team roles and responsibilities for the members of the dental office team.
 - Communicating an effective hand-off of care to arriving EMS personnel for hospital transfer.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Jesse West Manton is a graduate of UOP Dugoni ‘14, VA Palo Alto GPR ‘15, VASF Advanced Clinical Simulation Fellowship ’16, and the Ohio State University Dental Anesthesiology '19. He is currently the Chief of the Division of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. He is the director of the Medical Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Medical ERT teaching internship program for students. He is the program director for the post-doctoral anesthesiology internship program. Dr. Manton serves as an innovator and passionate medical educator for students and residents using medical simulation techniques, while also providing a wide scope of specialty anesthesiology and perioperative care services for pediatric and adult patients in the OMS SurgiCenter.
