Shred-a-Thon 2024

Caffeinate and declutter with SFDS at our 2024 Shred-a-Thon! Grab a cup of coffee and bring your boxes of paper to be shredded. Please read all requirements and policies CAREFULLY and make sure you are ready to go on shred day.

When:
Join us bright and early on Friday, July 12, from 9:30-Noon.

Where:
Sports Basement BACK parking lot. This is a DIFFERENT lot from the one used in previous years. We will be using the parking lot behind the store by the loading dock.

Shredding Requirements: 

We are using a different shredding company this year so PAY ATTENTION to what may have changed:

  • No X-rays or film. These must be removed.
  • No plastic or plastic sheet protectors – these must be removed.
    • If one x-ray or plastic folder is found in a box, the entire lot will be rejected.
    • If x-rays are found in the shredded material, we will charge $150 to EVERY PARTICIPANT'S credit card used to register. This is because if x-rays contaminate the paper shredding, they will charge SFDS HUGE penalties and we will have no way of knowing which box the x-rays came from.
  • No CD’s, thumb drives, e-waste or hanging file folders.
  • No binder notebooks.
  • Items that do not need to be removed: paper clips, fasteners, rubber bands, very small binder clips.
  • Files MUST be in banker boxes or boxes approximately 15" x 12" x 10" - no bags or large boxes.
  • Each office is limited to 10 free boxes. After 10 boxes, each box will be charged an additional $5. The limit is 20 boxes total for each office.
  • You MUST take your boxes with you after your items have been shredded.

TDIC recommendations for disposing of inactive patient records:

  • 10 years from the date an adult patient was last seen.
  • 10 years from the minor patient’s last treatment or 7 years past the minor patient’s 18th birthday (age 25), whichever is longer.

Registration and Fees: This is a free event - However you will need to reserve a 10-minute time slot between 9:30 and 12:00 and bring your boxes during that window. A credit card will be required when you register but will only be charged $20 if you do not show up or cancel less than a week before the event, or if additional charges are accrued. Please ensure that the credit card will not expire before the event. Call the SFDS office at 415-928-7337 to reserve your spot and to report how many boxes you will be bringing.

Cancellation Policy:
Please cancel at least one week in advance to avoid a $20 cancellation fee. Once all time slots are filled, a waiting list will open. If you are unable to attend, please let us know so that we can make your time slot available to those on the waitlist.

Registration, attendance and/or participation in SFDS courses/events constitutes an agreement by the registrant/sponsor to SFDS’ use and distribution (both now and in the future) of the registrant or attendee’s image or voice in photographs, videos, electronic reproductions, and audio of such events and activities.
