Virtual Meeting

Dr. Centore will help attendees appreciate just how widespread mental health conditions are amongst the patients that we treat in our dental practices every day.

Take aways from this virtual CE meeting will include:

  • Understand the clincal presentation of common mental health conditions
  • Gain confidence in asking follow-up questions to know when to make a referral to a mental health professional
  • Understand how conditions like depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and ADHD can affect home care compliance and treatment follow-through
  • Recognize your role in  reducing stigmas and barriers to oral health for those with mental health challenges
  • Know your legal and ethical responsibilities in treating patients with mental health conditions

Linda Centore, PhD, Np, is Clinical Professor Emeritus at the University of California School of Dentistry, San Francisco. She was full-time faculty at UCSF for 29 years. Dr. Centore is the former division chair of behavioral sciences, twice interim director of the externship program, and continues to teach behavioral sciences and medical risk assessment. She brought the experience of spending 50% of her time in predoctoral clinic to her relevant presentations in the classroom. She continues teaching and spends a day a week in clinic. When she left full-time status, she expanded her private practice. As a licensed psychologist and board-certified nurse practitioner she treats the psychological impact of orofacial, regional, and widespread pain and other health conditions in a team approach with dentists and physicians.  Dr. Centore received the University of California 150th Anniversary Alumni Excellence Award from the School of Nursing in 2015, her alma mater, and stepped down as President of UCSF School of Dentistry’s Rho Rho Chapter of the National Dental Honor Society Omicron Kappa Upsilon in 2020.  She has twice been ADEA’s Chair of the Behavioral Sciences Section and continues to have a leadership role in the section. She is a curriculum consultant to dental schools and lectures nationally on challenging patient behavior.  Dr. Centore is pleased to be invited to speak to us today on the topic of Managing Difficult Patient Behavior.
